What Am I Doing?

No seriously, what am I doing?

As some of you might have seen, I’ve recently pushed out a few releases for several different light novels, some of them new, some of them old. At the moment, I’m at a crossroad of sorts – there are novels I want to drop, and yet also novels I want to pick up. But therein lies a problem – a lack of time. As much as I’d love to translate every novel I’m interested in, I can’t exactly afford to.

Among the new items that I’ve recently ‘picked up’ are Denpachi, Ishibumi-sensei’s debut work, and The Seven Deadly Sins Master Ruthlessly Shatter Taboos (long title necessary?) from Uesu-sensei. I’m not exactly going to say that I’ve ‘picked them up’ up in the real sense – I’ve just translated the first chapter of each as a bit of a teaser. Both novels have caught my interest, but due to time constraints, I’m not going to commit to either of them. Hopefully the teaser chapters that I’ve translated will generate enough interest for another translator to formally take them on.

I’ve also made an update to my existing project Seikoku no Ryuu Kishi with the prologue of volume eight complete. Shinmai Maou no Keiyakusha volume eight is finally complete as well. This was a bit of an experimental volume for me as I shifted to a pure Japanese to English translation process, so sorry for taking so long with it. When I mentioned wanting to drop a novel above, this is the one that I was talking about. Lately, Shinmai Maou has become somewhat monotonous to me, and I’m beginning to lose interest. Service scenes are taking up a larger portion of each volume, and while I don’t dislike them, they’re becoming somewhat repetitive and ludicrous to the point that I sometimes just end up laughing out loud at how absurdly various objects and scenes are described. Finally, while Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica has been in the background for a while, I decided to give it a go…but didn’t get very far before I realised that I was lost. There’s a bit of catching up that I have to do before I’m ready – the last volume I read was the first one, so I’m completely unfamiliar with the characters and events introduced after the anime.

Anyway, I’ll continue to chip away at the collection of High School DxD short stories every once in a while. I need a break from Shinmai Maou so I’ll probably switch over to either Seikoku no Ryuu Kishi or a bit more of Denpachi for now.

Just asking: Are you dropping the Shinmai Maou Keiakusha translation. or are you unsure to follow?

You’re just taking a break from translating Shinmai right? Because it’s a shame if you quit since you’re quite good, thanks for all your hard work

Well, Shinmai is finished, so I don’t know if you can translate the remaining volumes, just for the sake of seeing how it all this ends

Thanks for all the stuff you have tl’ed til now, looking forward to more shinmai, mostly due in part to me already knowing more or less what happens by volume 12 😛

Regardless I am also looking forward to whatever else you may continue to tl. 😀

Thank you for partially doing Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica. And I’m sorry about my behavior these past few months. I’ll try to keep my frustration to a minimum since you’ll continue after getting caught up.

Thxs for all your translating. I’ll still continue to follow your site. Its understandable if u want to drop a novel because if a translator loses interest in the novel, then it becomes a waste of time as if they’re forced to translate what they don’t. Make sure u have time for yourself

Thank you for your effort in translating. I hope you don’t drop SMnK, I am willing to wait for it no matter how long you choose to take to translate it.

Personally, I think that the crowdfunding people are lower than the bacteria that feeds on pond scum by charging for the original author’s work and I refuse to support them.

Asking for donations to defray costs, I am fine with that, but they crossed the line and I actually hope they get shut down as it is a far more egregious violation than fan translations.

If you do drop Shinmai Maou, would you possibly find someone to pick it up?  I don’t want to get involved in that crowdfunding project.

No, I don’t think anyone’s as stupid as me to translate it. The crowdfund translation project killed all hope of it ever being picked up again, and that’s also why the other fan translators left.

Nah Z there is 1 crowdfund project already Past vol 9. Most of vol’s 10 , 11 and 12 are translated. 1 time fee to join that project is only 10.00 and you get everything done and in progress + anything, Shinmai related.  they have a discord channel for finding out about the project and a website. It’s all legit. As soon as vol 13 is released they said they will translate the final volume them move on to the Authors new novel DE. Devil exterminator

Sorry to hear you’re losing some motivation in dealing with novels you’ve lost interested in lately it totally sucks because you are a great TL’er Z. I understand your lack of time to translate everything you pick up. If your going to drop a title why not drop  Shinmai Maou no Keiyakusha just a subjection. Since there’s already a crowdfund project for it and it’s fairly reasonable to join for the price. begin that they just finished vol 9 fully, vol 10 is 30 %, Vol 11 is 25% and vol 12 is about 50% done with the translation. They are planning to pick up the last vol 13 when it’s released to complete it. I would like to see you continue if possible Rouge Hero and Seikoku no Ryuu Kishi but that’s not up to me. Whatever you choose to do I will support your decision.

I also thnk you should just drop  Shinmai Maou no Keiyakusha  because of the reason above.

I heard that the same team wants to pick up Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica after finishing Shinmai Maou and maybe  The Seven Deadly Sins Maste  too.

You should contact the other translation team because you both are interested in the 3 same projects and I don’t want too see the same chapters translated by two different teams ( that’s just a waste of your time)

Thank you for all of your hard work. I won’t lie that I want to finish the Shinmai Maou series, but I totally understand your reasoning. I am looking forward to DxD volume 25 whenever you decide to start it. Also, I am hoping and praying that you will decide to start Shin HS DxD as it would be great to be able to see what finally happens with everyone. I heard how Dragonar ended and so it took the wind out of my sails with it, as it had previously been one of my favorites. I wish I could learn Japanese faster, but unfortunately that is not going well. Thank you again for all that you do and I will eagerly await more DxD and any other work you decide to do!

I’m no longer translating the main High School DxD volumes by the way. You can find volume 25 and hopefully future volumes at mrleoo01.com.

Ah that’s unfortunate but it’s good to hear that someone else is working on it so that it’s not stopped all together. I’ll have to make sure to drop them a thank you as well. If they’re anywhere near as good as you then the project is in good hands. Thank you so much for your work on it, and thank you for taking the time to post the info for me. Also, I hope you decide to continue Shinmai, as I enjoy your style of translation and you’ve already done so much of it. Not mention I’m not sure how good the crowdfund TL is, but either way I’ll support whatever you decide since you’re the one whose been nice enough to translate these stories that otherwise we’d never get to read since for whatever reason have not been licensed in English. So thank you again!
